Military ammunition – anti-aircraft artillery and armored vehicles

AEROFINA produces and develops small and medium caliber ammunition for aviation, anti-aircraft systems and armored vehicles, according to NATO standards.

The portfolio includes 20x102 mm and 35x228 mm ammunition, available in both training (TP/TP-T) and operational versions (FAP, HEI, FAPDS).

20×102 mm Ammunition – FAP (Frangible Armor Piercing)

The 20×102 mm FAP ammunition is a new type of high-performance, non-explosive, multi-purpose ammunition developed for use in AIR-AIR or AIR-GROUND combat, designed for the M61, M61A, M61A1, M621, M39, M50, M168, M197 aircraft guns.

Tech sheet

  • Each projectile has a sub-projectile made of tungsten metal.
  • After penetrating the target, the heavy metal granules disintegrate into multiple fragments.

20x102 mm Ammunition – TP/TP-T (Target Practice/Target Practice with Tracer)

TP and TP-T are training ammunition certified by the Romanian Air Force for use with the M61A1 and M621 cannons mounted on F-16 aircraft and IAR 330 Puma helicopters.

Tech sheet

The TP cartridge does not contain an explosive filler in the projectile.

The TP and TP-T have a hollow-cavity projectile body, without a warhead (inert).
The cartridge nose is constructed of aluminum and is attached to the projectile body.

20x102 mm Ammunition – HEI (High Explosive Incendiary)

High Explosive Incendiary Ammunition - HEI is an ammunition designed to inflict damage on the target by means of a high explosive charge and incendiary effects

Tech sheet

High Explosive Incendiary - HEI ammunition is certified by the Romanian Air Force for use with the M61A1 and M621 cannons mounted on F-16 aircraft and IAR 330 Puma helicopters.

  • This type of projectile contains 11.5 g of HEXAL-type explosive-incendiary payload.
  • It has no tracer

35x228 mm Ammunition – TP-T (Target Practice with Tracer)

The 35x228mm TP-T ammunition is part of the training ammunition group and is intended for use on the 35mm KDA automatic cannon mounted on the GEPARD anti-aircraft system and the VIFORUL towed anti-aircraft system.

Tech sheet

  • The body of the training projectile is made of steel, the tip is made of aluminum alloy and the forcing belt is made of brass.
  • The projectile can be used in both ground-to-air and ground-to-ground missions up to a distance of 5000m.

35x228 mm Ammunition – FAPDS-T (Frangible Armour Piercing with Dischargable Sabots and Tracer)

The 35x228 mm FAPDS-T ammunition is part of the subcaliber ammunition group and is intended for use on the 35mm KDA automatic cannon mounted on the GEPARD anti-aircraft system and the VIFORUL towed anti-aircraft system.

Tech sheet

  • The projectile is part of the category of gyroscopically stabilized kinetic penetrators, it is composed of a penetrator made of tungsten alloy and a plastic sabot. The solution ensures high flight speeds and excellent penetration capabilities.
  • The projectile can be used in both ground-to-air and ground-to-ground missions up to a distance of 5000m.
